It boasts some of Australia’s best shopping, entertainment and leisure experiences, but that’s not all the gorgeous Gold Coast has to offer. It’s also home to a host of premier events, and this July is certainly no different.
Visitors to the region, one of the top holiday destinations internationally, can enjoy the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, on July 4 and 5, Sanctuary Cove’s 4Ball golfing Challenge, from July 4 to 9 and the Viva Surfers Paradise Elvis Presley festival from July 10 to 19.
All these events are located just a short distance from The Grand Apartments in Labrador, which offers the perfect pad for the intrepid solo traveller, families, groups or couples.
The 37th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon is Australia’s premier road race and the first marathon in the country to hold an International Association of Athletics Federation Road Race Gold Label.
In 2014, the marathon attracted a staggering 27,000 participants of all ages and ability levels for a range of races, including the Wheelchair Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, Wheelchair 15km, Southern Cross University 10km Run, Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge and Junior Dash 4km and 2km races.
The marathon course runs next to the Gold Coast’s world renowned surf beaches and has a reputation as one of the fastest courses in the world due to its flat nature. Organisers say it’s ideal if you’re a runner seeking to set a personal best.
Ambassadors of the event include Australian running legends Rob de Castella, Steve Moneghetti, Lee Troop and Pat Carroll, and there’ll be plenty opportunities to meet them during the marathon.

Hosted by Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club, the 4 Ball format tournament features ambrose, best ball and aggregate stableford competition at The Pines – Australia’s only Arnold Palmer signature golf course.
The 101 hectare course is situated directly in the middle of an established pine plantation and it has been described as one of the most technically rewarding courses in the country. 2013 US Masters champion, Adam Scott said about the course: “When I think of great golf in Australia, I think of The Pines at Sanctuary Cove, a true test of the game”.

While you’re in town for a game of golf or the Gold Coast Airport Marathon, you’d be doing yourself a disservice to miss Viva Surfers Paradise.
Paying tribute to the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, the festival features a slew of local, national and international performers, including world famous Elvis performer Chris Connor. He’s performed at venues such as the Manchester Apollo and the Harrogate International Centre in the World’s Greatest Elvis Tribute Concerts and is known to put on an impressive show. Bill Cherry, winner of the 2009 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Competition in Memphis, will also be taking to the Surfers Paradise stage during the festival.
A variety of 50s and 60s themed events will run throughout, including vintage stalls, rock and roll dancing and more.
