In early 2016 the Gold Coast’s sandy shores will come alive for the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships, featuring a Disney theme which is sure to impress the whole family. One thing’s for sure: The kids will go nuts for this quirky spectator sport!
Located a short distance from The Grand Apartments in Labrador (and held from Friday, February 13 to Sunday, March 1) the hotly anticipated championships will scatter a trail from Robina Town Centre to Westfield Helensvale, alongside the main event at The Foreshore, Surfers Paradise.
Australian Sand Sculpting Championships Feb – March, 2016
This year’s Sand Safari will see the Surfers Paradise coastline fill with 12 sculptures of your Disney friends, ranging from a whopping 10 to 25 tonne in weight! Sculptors will be keen to take home the crown, so expect mind blowing works of art created in a flurried bid for the win. The Sand Safari will also feature an interactive Disney display where you can a photo taken, as well as interactive sand art and bottle workshops.
You’ll be able to view the sculptors at work daily from 8am to 6pm from February 13 to March 1, as well as the build of the Disney Interactive Sculpture, held from 9.30am to 6pm daily from February 18 to 22. Nevertheless, all sculptures will remain open for viewing until March 1, giving an ample opportunity to peruse the stellar sand creations.
10 mini sculptures will also be dotted around the coast for you to discover, and locations range from The Oasis Shopping Centre to Soul Boardwalk, Australia Fair and many locations in between.
Gold Coast Relay for life March 2016
Meanwhile, March will also bring the Gold Coast Relay for Life to the region, which attracts teams from far and wide to fundraise for the Cancer Council. The Gold Coast often rallies round the well-regarded run, with hundreds of thousands raised for cancer research last year alone.
The Grand Apartments in Labrador offers a brilliant base for participants, right around the corner from the expected starting location.
