Meanwhile, the Gold Coast Film Festival, held at various venues across the northern and mid Gold Coast, is an annual 10 day event celebrating all aspects of film from one of the nation’s top filmmaking locations and holiday destinations – the Gold Coast.
With flicks ranging from internationally acclaimed dramas, to comedies and genre films, unique Japanese anime, locally made indie movies and family features, the film festival offers a diverse, interactive and charming program of film, events and special guests.
For filmmakers and students, the festival runs free seminars and workshops aimed at educating, inspiring and embracing the Gold Coast as a filmmaking destination.
This year will mark the 14th annual festival, and it will feature roughly 100 film and film-related events in different locations,
In 2015 the festival attracted over 12,000 visitors from the Gold Coast and further abroad.
Organisers say international filmmaking was introduced to the Gold Coast in the late 1980s and last year films such as Unbroken, San Andreas and Pirates of the Caribbean have chosen the Gold Coast to shoot their multi-million dollar films.
Academy Award winner John Cox holds the position of festival patron, and the event’s board consists of industry figures including Mike Selwyn (Paramount Pictures) and producer Chris Brown (The Railway Man, Daybreakers).
While staying in the region in March you can also enjoy an extensive range of surfing, scuba diving, wakeboarding, jet skiing and other waterborne experiences, suiting kids and adults alike.
